16. Resetting passwords with a browser

Users who forget their password or whose password has been locked out due to too many failed login attempts can reset their own passwords and unlock their own accounts, rather than calling the help desk. This is done using a P-Synch web interface.

Assuming that P-Synch is installed on a server called password, then the default URL for users to change their own passwords is:

http://password/psynch/nph-pss.exe

To reset your own passwords with the self-serve reset module:

  1. Login and navigate to the Select a new password for [USERNAME][LOGIN ID] page.
See "Using the self-service modules" (Chapter HERE).
  2. Type the new password in the New password and Confirm fields.
  3. Click the check boxes next to the the systems on which you will synchronize your passwords, setting them all to a new value. By default, P-Synch will synchronize all of your passwords.
  4. Click Change my password.

P-Synch displays the Password change results page to confirm the changes or to report failures.

  5. Close your web browser if the changes were successful, or click the Main button to try again.
  6. It is recommended that you log out of your workstation, then log in again.
