PW-Reset

NIS master servers have no nice, command-line tool for resetting user passwords. Instead, system administrators are expected to place a lock on the passwd map, edit it manually, run make, and release the lock.

PWRESET is a program to automate this process, making it much more administrator-friendly. It is helpful for managing NIS passwords from a chat script.

BindMon

It is sometimes helpful to resolve a single DNS name to multiple IP addresses. While most DNS servers automatically provide round-robin rotation of this mapping, which results in rudimentary TCP/IP service load balancing, they do not monitor said services for outages, and remove "dead" services from the rotation.

BINDMON is a Unix daemon program which monitors the health of TCP services on several systems, and dynamically rewrites BIND zone files when servers become unreachable, or when they are reactivated.
